In any sort of social interaction - again, these labels exist to help us navigate relationships - how people see themselves isn't irrelevant. You might subjectively experience your attraction as gay, straight or whatever, but if that contradicts their identity, that's more than a technicality. Now this can all be a bit fraught when you're attracted to someone you don't see as the gender they are, and want to be seen as. That's why I disagree with slapping microlabels on whatever particular patterns people see in their attractions while they're still figuring out their sexuality as much as with erasing the broader categories of gayness, bisexuality, or asexuality altogether. There's also always a process of discovery and exploration, which is obviously made easier for straight people. It makes no practical sense to call yourself straight if all you experience are gay attractions, or no attractions, but it also makes no sense to label someone something that contradicts their own experience (even temporarily, while they're figuring it out). They describe just that, though, patterns. Given the gender categories we have, it makes the most sense to accommodate the patterns along which people seem to experience attractions at least with distinct labels for heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, and asexuality. If a man is strictly attracted to feminity in people of multiple genders and prefers labelling those attractions as 'straight', that's completely fine.įrom a pragmatic philosophy-of-language point of view (which I take because I agree with Natalie Wynn and Wittgenstein that life is too short for metaphysics), all these labels only exist to navigate the socially constructed gender categories that exist, and that structure the social space in which we in turn have to navigate relationships. You seem to be responding to my saying 'Why not call yourself bisexual? It's an option'. The problem is whatever answer you find for that is often taken to generalise automatically to people, so if a man experiences something that can be understood (technically or otherwise) as gay, the question is almost always, 'does this make me gay?' and not 'does this make me bi?' It's usually only mentioned in passing, if at all, but people seem to be more interested in classifying specific attractions as gay or straight.

To answer your question, first of all, I personally haven't seen anyone 'screaming' about bisexuality ever, let alone in this context. Hilariously, I was just rewatching a Contrapoints video when the notification for your comment popped up. We are not a subreddit to be advertised or study, don't do that here. This subreddit does not allow hate speech or any sort of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. Planned Parenthood's Gender and Sexual Orientation Page The Kinsey Scale is a commonly used scale to express a position in the heterosexual-homosexual continuum. Gender and Sexuality 101 A quick video on Youtube explaining a lot of the principles behind gender and sexuality. Here's an alternate, somewhat more comprehensive version. The Genderbread Person is an easy to understand infographic on sexual and gender identification. Here are some useful resources and handy links.
